Things to do
La'al Ratty
The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is one of the world’s oldest and longest surviving narrow gauge railways, transporting passengers from Ravenglass to Dalegarth for Boot. You can hear the toot of the train from the cottage and the Green Station is only a short walk from the door. For further information visit: https://ravenglass-railway.co.uk/

Scafell Pike
England's highest mountain is not far away. Towering over Wast Water the views are spectacular. Park at Wasdale Head (15 mins in the car) for the easiest route to the top.

Walks from the door
There are loads of great walks locally. We love Muncaster Fell, the fell you can see from the house, it is a bit boggy on top but has great views, on a good day you can see Scotland and the Isle of Man. Another favourite is to walk over Eskdale Common past Blea Tarn (pictured) and drop down to Boot for a pint. Not far from Blea Tarn are some stone circles that are worth a look as well. There are numerous opportunities for low level walks. Walking alongside the River Esk is a particular
favourite.

Muncaster Castle and Gardens
Visit the historic 'haunted' Muncaster Castle, it's 77 acres of woodland and gardens and it Hawk & Owl Centre.

Wast Water
England's deepest lake is on your doorstep. Great for paddle boards, kayaks and swimming. Motor boats are not permitted on Wast Water which keeps the water crystal clear and clean.

Stanley Ghyll Viewing Platform
A recent installation, the viewing platform offers great views towards the Scafell range. There are also the spectacular waterfalls of Stanley Ghyll. It is very high so not for the faint hearted!
